Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark Trailer Hits

As a kid I was terrified of the horror/slasher genre, but for some odd reason I loved scary books.  It started with Goosebumps (alright, not scary, but I was young at the time) and eventually moved on to the Scary Stories series.  In case you were not aware, Alvin Schwartz wrote a the series of books: Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (1981), More Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (1984) and Scary Stories 3: More Tales to Chill Your Bones (1991).

Drawing from urban legends and folklore, Schwartz created what was deemed as horror stories for kids (aka the thing of nightmares).  The book has finally been made into a film after all these years, and you can check out the trailer above.

I’ll be honest and, for the most part, it looks pretty freaky.  I wasn’t sure if they would push the scare factor seeing as it is a “children’s horror story” or make it more along the lines of Goosebumps and Are You Afraid of the Dark? It looks to possibly up the scare-factor a bit more than those mentioned.

Guilermo Del Toro is a co writer of the film which is set to be released on August 9, 2019, by Lionsgate and CBS Films. A synopsis for the movie can be found below:

“Inspired by one of the most terrifying children’s book series of all time, SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARKfollows a group of young teens who must solve the mystery surrounding sudden and macabre deaths in their small town.”
