While we all celebrated the end of this past season of The Mandalorian it didn’t last long. The typical Star Wars drama/rumor mill came back around shortly after with outlets reporting that behind the scenes drama was the root of the delay of the next season of The Mandalorian. Yellow Journalism has become the go to when it involves anything with Lucasfilm or Star Wars. In fact when it comes to Star Wars news the famous quote from The Man Who Shot Liberty Vance comes to mind “When the legend becomes fact, print the legend.”

When the announcement that The Book of Boba Fett would be the next Star Wars live action installment it sent some fans into a frenzy. There were rumors swirling that the story of Din Djarin was over and that Boba would be taking over as the lead for The Mandalorian series. Even as Jon Favreau appeared on Good Morning America to clear up the confusion, some fans didn’t want to accept a simple answer. They wanted to pick Favreau’s words apart and make it appear as if there was some behind the scenes drama that led to a delay in production for the third season of The Mandalorian.
As much as some fans want to believe that there is some sort of civil war going on at Lucasfilm leading to delays in production, it is simply not the case. The boring truth for production of The Mandalorian being slated for later this year instead of now is simply due to scheduling and Covid-19 protocols.
While Lucasfilm has multiple studios across the world, Covid-19 protocols have made scheduling the biggest complication. Trying to navigate multiple shows with a central story is difficult enough but to get everyone together during a pandemic safely is almost impossible. The actor’s schedule that has been the toughest to work out is Temuera Morrison’s since he will be a part of three upcoming Star Wars series on Disney+. Temuera has come back to star as Boba Fett which will see his own series this December and will be back for some role in the third season of The Mandalorian. On top of filming for both of those series Temuera will be reprising his role as Commander Cody in the upcoming Kenobi series. This news was first reported by Corey and Noah at Kessel Run Transmission when they reported that Kenobi will be hunted down by Vader, Commander Cody, along with the 512th.
From the information we have gathered, once production ends for Boba Fett, Temuera will jettison to England to film his parts for the Kenobi series which should start filming in early March. After he finishes with Kenobi he will head back to the states to film whatever parts he has for the third season of The Mandalorian. What Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni are trying to create would’ve been hard anyways without a pandemic.
While there is always some drama with any production we can confidently report that there is no drama in the scheduling for the upcoming Star Wars projects.
