Doctor Strange is in excellent hands with Sam Raimi says Scott Derrickson. Derrickson directed Doctor Strange and was set to also helm Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. However, everything changed due to some creative differences and Sam Raimi was brought in to replace Derrickson.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has already begun filming we think, under Rami’s guidance. Some fans of Derrickson were still annoyed that the director was leaving the Doctor Strange franchise. One fan reached out to Derrickson on social media to express his disappointment, but understanding at the directors exit.

It may take some time, but eventually I guess we’ll find out a little more about what Derrickson had planned. It’s likely that much will change between the version Derrickson was developing and the final movie we will see from Raimi. I was not a massive fan of Doctor Strange but really warmed to the character through the Avengers movies he was in. I’m certainly keen to see what Raimi can pull off. Many fans consider Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy sacred, but alas, I am not one of them. I really enjoyed Spider-Man 2, the other two, not so much.
I’m definitely more interested in seeing a Doctor Strange movie which features a more experienced version of Strange. Perhaps Doctor Strange was just one origin story too much for me at the time? The movie felt like an introduction to Strange, which I guess is the point? But seeing Strange post-Endgame definitely excites me more on the story possibilities. Though, of course we will see Strange again sooner within WandaVision. How much Strange features on what has been called a set-up story for Multiverse of Madness is unknown. Will Strange show up at the the end to aid Wanda, and set up MoM, or will he be a bigger player than we realize?
