SDCC Is To Be A Free Online Event On Same Dates As Cancelled Show

San Diego Comic-Con was one of the casualties of the coronavirus lockdown this year. However, it has now been announced that SDCC is to be a free online event. The now online and free SDCC will take place over July 22 until July 26, the same dates the live show was scheduled for.

Check out the Twitter post from Collider‘s Steve Weintraub below.

SDCC spokesperson David Glanzer spoke officially about the free event, open to all fans.

“For the first time in our 50-year history, we are happy to welcome virtually anyone from around the globe. Though stay-at-home conditions makes this a very difficult time, we see this as an opportunity to spread some joy and strengthen our sense of community.”

As a fan who will likely never get to a real SDCC, I am looking forward to seeing how things unfold online. Of course, one of the big attractions of attending SDCC is to see all the cosplayers, not just the scheduled panels. I’ll guess the fans will find some way to dress up at home and share their look online. However, since a live-event cannot happen, this is the next best thing, right?

SDCC is a big event for LRM, and we always have a sizeable presence at the show. I guess this year instead we will all be tuning in online to catch all the latest news from the franchises we all love. It’ll be interesting to see just how SDCC plans to bring the same level of excitement to an online event. One thing’s for sure, there will be all night queues to get into Hall H this year.

What do you think of the news that SDCC is to be a free online event? What reveals do you think we will see this year, will you be tuning in? Leave your thoughts below as always.
