Selena Gomez’s Dark Netflix Series 13 REASONS WHY Gets Intriguing Trailer

Netflix is continuing it’s impressive streak of quality shows. This year already saw A Series of Unfortunate Events dominate pop culture conversation, and as we know, Netflix has the ambitious goal to increase their original content. As such, there’s a whole lot more where that came from. On that list of new shows is 13 Reasons Why, a series from executive producers Tom McCarthy, Brian Yorkey, Selena Gomez, Joy Gorman, and Kristen Laiblin.

You’ll likely recognize at least one of those names, and if you’re a film fan, perhaps even two. The first name you may recognize, of course, is former Disney star Selena Gomez. In fact, this entire thing is the pet project between her, her mother, and Laiblin, who originally planned on adapting the novel of the same name into a film.

In October of last year, it was revealed that they’d actually be turning it into a series for Netflix, and over a year later, we finally have our first look, and it looks pretty darn intriguing. Have a look at the trailer below!

In addition to having Gomez’s involvement (it’s still unclear if she’s starring in the film in any capacity, but the trailer may have actually contained her voice in it), McCarthy’s work as exec producer is also a huge deal. For those who don’t know, he co-wrote and directed the 2015 film Spotlight, which won Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay at last year’s Oscars. In addition to executive producer, McCarthy is also serving as the director of the first few episodes of the show. In short, he’s setting the tone for all the episodes going forward.

Between the strong trailer, and all the talent involved, I’d say there’s a good reason to be excited for this one.

The official synopsis for 13 Reasons Why is as follows:

“Based on the best-selling books by Jay Asher, the Netflix Original Series 13 Reasons Why follows Clay Jensen (Dylan Minnette) as he returns home from school to find a mysterious box with his name on it lying on his porch. Inside he discovers cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker—his classmate and crush—who tragically committed suicide two weeks earlier. On tape, Hannah explains that there are thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. Will Clay be one of them? 13 Reasons Why comes from executive producers Tom McCarthy, Brian Yorkey, Selena Gomez, Joy Gorman and Kristel Laiblin.”
