Selena: The Series Release Date, Poster And Teaser Video

Selena: The Series

Selena Quintanilla was one of the best-selling female artists in Latin music. It was tragic that she was shot and killed on March 31st, 1995 by Yolanda Saldivar, her “friend” and former manager of her Selena Etc. boutiques. When Saldivar attempted to flee she was cornered by police and she tried to kill herself. She eventually gave herself up and became one of the most hated people in the Latin community to this day. Selena’s death shocked everyone as she was such a rising star, to the point where Governor George W. Bush declared her birthday Selena Day in Texas. Just two years later, Warner Bros. released Selena, which starred Jennifer Lopez as Selena and Lupe Ontiveros as Saldivar. I remember this film very well as our family went to see in the theater three times. To this day her music remains popular, especially with Latin fans.

We know that Netflix has been working on a two-part series titled, Selena: The Series starring The Walking Dead’s Christian Serratos as Selena. Today, Netflix announced the date for the release of part one of the series. Selena: The Series part one will debut on the streaming giant on December 4th, 2020. They also released a teaser video and key art. You can check out the video above and the key art below!

Here is more information about Selena: The Series provided by Netflix:
Before she became the Queen of Tejano Music, Selena Quintanilla was a young girl from Texas with big dreams and an even bigger voice. The two-part coming-of-age drama Selena: The Series explores the once-in-a-generation performer’s journey as a young artist, from singing small gigs in Corpus Christi with her family to becoming one of the most successful Latin artists of all time — and the years of grit and sacrifice the Quintanilla family navigated together before Selena’s meteoric rise to fame.

The series features executive producers Jaime Dávila, Rico Martinez, Hiromi Kamata, Suzette Quintanilla, Simran A. Singh and Moises Zamora. It was created by Zamora, with Don Todd consulting. Along with Serratos it also stars Gabriel Chavarria, Ricardo Chavira, Noemí Gonzalez, and Seidy López.

I think that Serratos looks really good as Selena. It will be a tough task to try and not only be like Selena but also follow up on the performance of Lopez from her feature film. What do you guys think of what we have seen so far? Let us know in the comment section below!
