Disclaimer: This post contains spoilers for Luke Cage Season 1.

You never know when someone may pop up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That’s both a good and bad thing. It’s nice knowing that when a character walks away that you may very well find them walking into the story of another character. However, the flip side to that is that it doesn’t absolutely guarantee that they’ll show up in the most natural of ways. For instance, it’s not guaranteed that a character in Daredevil will show up in Daredevil Season 3 — they may instead show up in Iron Fist Season 2 or The Defenders.

With that in mind, even though Season 1 of Luke Cage ended with Shades and Mariah walking off together, now representing the new power couple of Harlem, it doesn’t necessarily mean they’d show up next season. Sure, it would make sense that the pair would return in Luke Cage Season 2, but given the unpredictability of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it was never a full-on guarantee.

However, speaking with Parade, actor Theo Rossi (who plays Shades in the series) pretty much confirmed that he’d be back:

“Luke Cage is going down, [we’re in] season two. We’re pretty excited, it’ll be nice to get back into the swing.”

As of this writing, there are no details as to where the story will go in Season 2. Right now, we still have several other seasons of television to get through before Luke Cage is even possible. This year alone, we have The Defenders and Jessica Jones to get through — and maybe even Season 3 of Daredevil next year. As such, we don’t really know how these series will leave New York City, and given this fact, it’s pretty much become impossible to guess where each season of a show will pick up.

Regardless, Rossi managed a cool and likable take on Shades, and we’re definitely interested to see him go head-to-head with Luke Cage down the line. Compared to many other villains in last season, he has a much cooler head and tactical mind, so he may very well pose a huge threat — even greater than last time.
