Sharp Objects Will Remain A One Season Limited Series

Sharp Objects, the limited series adaptation of author Gillian Flynn’s debut novel, will not be following in the footsteps of another popular HBO series adaptation. While Big Little Lies, based on the novel by Liane Moriarty, will have a second season that develops an original angle continuing from the novel’s plot, Sharp Objects will remain a one season only series, according to its showrunner, Marti Noxon.

Noxon, present at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour, stated:

“We’re not talking about a Season 2… This is it, so bask in it while you can.”

Noxon seems to want to stay loyal to the content that was created in Flynn’s novel and is not looking to stray into making an original story that spans beyond that. Flynn was also present at the tour and explained that an 8-episode limited series was the right amount to tell the story of her protagonist Camille Parker (played by Amy Adams) and the town of Wind Gap, Missouri.

“I felt this one in particular did feel like it needed more than two hours… It did need that length, again, just to make sure that Camille and her story and that character study didn’t get lost within the mystery itself.”

HBO programming president Casey Bloys later explained to TheWrap the network agrees with Noxon, stating that “we got a fantastic limited series, and we’ll leave it at that.”

Sharp Objects airs Sunday nights on HBO at 9, is available OnDemand, and on the HBO Go and HBO Now apps.
