Shawn Levy Says His Star Wars Movie Is Standalone Experience

Director Shawn Levy says his Star Wars movie is designed as a standalone experience.

Director Shawn Levy says his Star Wars movie is designed as a standalone experience. In other words, it won’t be a part of an ongoing saga. Of course Levy is only developing the movie right now and it may never get made. I guess it depends how good an idea he has and whether Lucasfilm gives the greenlight.

However, since we all know he’s developing a Star Wars movie, he does get asked about it. Such as in Levy’s recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. Transcript below.

“I’ll say that the experience of crafting this story has forced me to think about that question. Because there’s only so many times that Star Wars movies can revisit the same section of the timeline, and so it’s really forced me — because I don’t want to do a Star Wars movie that is redundant to others, nor am I interested in doing one that has to serve another movie.”

“I really wanted to craft something that felt organic to me, both in tone and characters, so I think that there is certainly the Force and a connection to something bigger than our individual selves. And the way that that can make us powerful, those themes, combined with visual delight and wish fulfillment, that’s Star Wars to me.”

There were some rumors that his film would be set in the future New Jedi Order timeline. That had led some fans to theorize Levy’s movie would be a sequel to the one greenlit from Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. However, for one those were rumors we cannot verify. Secondly, I don’t think Star Wars is doing the old trilogy thing again. I could see the New Jedi Order timeline being mapped out like the MCU. Stories set in the same place at the same time with ability for some crossover down the line. However, again, I stress we know nothing about Levy’s vision at this time. Other than what you read above anyway.
