In a recent interview with Collider Deadpool 3 director Shawn Levy updates on the progress of his Star Wars movie, or where it was pre-strikes. Though hardly greenlit, Levy himself admitted he was working on a Star Wars movie as per the trades earlier this year. However, we all know by now that just because someone is developing a Star Wars movie does not mean it will ever go under cameras. So where is Levy with his Star Wars film?
“We were just starting the process of developing my movie, and the writer strike happened,” said Levy. “So we are in that holding pattern that so much of our industry is in.”
In other words, Levy is just at the start of this process. As yet we have absolutely no clue where, or what this Star Wars movie might be about. We currently have three Star Wars films which are set to go ahead. Those are Dave Filoni’s MandoVerse movie, the Rey sequel from Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, and the Dawn of the Jedi movie from James Mangold which is also only in it’s early stages. Then we have this movie being developed by Shawn Levy, and another being developed, now solely, by Taika Waititi.

To be honest Waititi seems to have more time invested so far than either Mangold or Levy. However, the truth is, the only movies we can guarantee are getting made are the first two mentioned above. History tells us that at least one of these other movies won’t get past a certain stage. I hope I’m wrong, as we need some new Star Wars movies in different era’s. However, when we look at how many projects have never made it to filming in the past, who knows?
So far we have movies planned for the New Jedi Order era, the New Republic era, and the Dawn of the Jedi era. As yet we have no clue where Waititi, nor Levy’s movies may be based. I am kinda hoping those ones are different era’s again to be honest, but we shall have to wait and see.
