The ancient Wizard Shazam, played by Djimon Hounsou, will be returning in Shazam! Fury of the Gods. There is no news yet on how he will be returning, but we will see Hounsou back in the sequel. Shazam! Fury of the Gods, will be expected to hit theaters on June 2, 2023. This comes from a report by Murphy’s Multiverse, so for now, this is just a rumor. However Murphy is one of the best right now, so I’m guessing this is solid.

What Happened To The Ancient Wizard

Being the last of the council of wizards, Shazam has been waiting for centuries at the Rock of Eternity for someone who will be the new champion who is pure of heart. The last champion had brought about the 7 deadly sins when revenge drove him astray. The Rock of Eternity was broken into by Sivana, who was deemed unworthy as a kid. Sivana stole the eye of sin, taking in the 7 deadly sins, and attacked the Wizard. Shazam summons a foster boy, Billy Batson, and chooses him to be the champion. All Billy needs to do is say his name, Shazam, to turn into an adult superhero. Shazam hands Billy the staff then disintegrates into dust.

Since the Wizard turned into dust in the movie, Shazam!, I’m not sure how he will be returning. Will he be a ghost, will it be a flashback, or will it be a resurrection? I’m hoping for something like a force ghost, but I doubt I’ll be getting my wish, but it will be good to see Djimon Hounsou in the sequel.

What We Are Expecting In Shazam! Fury Of The Gods So Far

When trying to defeat Sivana, Billy uses the staff to share his powers with his siblings then breaks it. The 6 of them defeat Sivana and return the eye of sin to the Rock of Eternity. Not a lot is known about Shazam! Fury of the Gods. We will be getting goddesses, Hespera and Kalypso, as our villains. Hespera and Kalypso will be played by Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu. I’m looking forward to what all the new superheroes will take on.
