Zachary Levi came out yelling, “What’s up, Nerds? This is f***ing crazy!” In true Levi fashion, he’s full fanboy here, and I’d expect nothing less.
There is no better embodiment of wish fulfillment than this film, said Levi, who said he still hopes to have mutated overnight so he can fly. Next, they showed us the trailer for the flick, and man, did it look like a good time!
When it came to casting Levi as Shazam, director David F. Sandberg said that there was a childlike enthusiasm that worked for the character. When asked about how he feels about playing a childlike superhero, Levi said there are few superheroes that are “jazzed” about getting superpowers. “Peter Parker and Billy Batson come to mind” in that they are excited to have their abilities. He loves that he gets to be that child and that there is an optimism in the character. Levi says now more than ever, we need heroes who care about other people.
When it comes to abilities, Zachary Levi thinks teleportation is the way to go. Flying is cool, sure, but when flying you have to worry about bugs and helmets, and you can take a free vacation. David F. Sandberg wants to stop time so he can catch up on his TV shows.
Shazam! hits theaters next April!
