Shazam! Sequel Gets 2022 Release Date

Earlier this week, there was a report going around that the Shazam! sequel was officially announced by Warner Bros. at CCXP in Brazil. Unfortunately, that turned out not to be the case, but we all knew that a sequel was inevitable and that, given how quickly the young stars were growing up, that it needed to come sooner rather than later. But how long would the studio hold off on fully announcing it?

Well, not long. TheWrap is reporting that Warner Bros. has officially slated the film for April 1, 2022, and that star Zachary Levi will be returning to the title role. No word on the rest of the cast (as there are an important handful of other characters, including Asher Angel, who should really be coming back), but I’m sure it’s only a matter of time.

This announcement comes following the $364 million worldwide run the movie had at the box office. It admittedly wasn’t that huge of a haul, given the numbers this genre usually pulls, but it had a smaller $100 million budget, and couple that with the critical an audience reception it had, you have an all-around successful flick for the studio.
