As far as big-screen efforts and shared cinematic universes Marvel has been traveling down a smooth freeway, while DC has, for the most part, been driving down a gravel road, with square wooden tires. Now, there are a few DC films that show us what their cinematic universe could be if firing on all cylinders.
Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and what is perhaps the biggest surprise of the three, Shazam! are all solid films, with the latter being something fresh from the darker and grittier world for which DC is known. The film had something that not often seen in DC efforts, lots and lots of FUN.
And as we’ve known for a while now, more fun from Captain Sparkle Fingers and friends is on the way in the form of a sequel. Director David F. Sandberg is back behind the camera for Shazam! 2: The Rise of Billy Batson, which according to Geeks Worldwide, will begin filming in July.

Often described as, “Big with superheroes,” the Shazam! allowed many of us to relive our childhood, running around with friends pretending to be a superhero. I also thought Zachary Levi was great, excellent choice. I would really like to see Shazam show up more often in future DC films, as well as at least a touch of Shazam!‘s spirit and tone.
Shazam! 2: Billy and Freddy’s Excellent Adventure will hit theaters on April 1, 2022.
