Lately, it seems like we are all stuck in an anxiety-inducing, slow-paced thriller. Press conference after news release, we’re on the edge of our seats waiting to see what’s next. COVID-19 has forced us to remain in our homes, practicing social distancing–a phrase some of us never uttered until now. On the bright side, most of us have Wi-Fi and access to at least one streaming service, opening the door to hours of content to binge. And now, another streaming service is offering its ghoulish delights for FREE!
Shudder, the horror streaming service, is offering one free month of streaming to new members. With the promo code SHUTIN, new viewers will have access to Shudder’s expansive library of thrills and chills. Legendary films like John Carpenter’s The Fog, Bob Clark’s Black Christmas, and Tobe Hooper’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre are intertwined with original content the service has to offer.

Shudder breaks its content down into three channels: It Came From Shudder, Psychological Thrillers, and Slashics. Additionally, the spooky library offers lengthy documentaries on horror classics like A Nightmare On Elm Street (Never Sleep Again) and Friday The 13th (Crystal Lake Memories). Moreover, their new docu-series Cursed Films delves into the behind-the-scenes myths of horror classics like The Exorcist and Poltergeist.
While some would rather laugh right now, horror movies can provide the adrenaline-filled release some viewers need. In most cases, these films feature a villain you can see, which is an appealing alternative to the current villain plaguing our world. As a horror fan myself, I am definitely considering a free month of horror to balance my continuous virus updates. A well-timed jump scare can do wonders for tension release.
