Behind The Making Of Skin: A History Of Nudity In The Movies [Exclusive Interview]

Finally, a documentary on the history of nudity! Skin: A History Of Nudity In The Movies.

Yes, this documentary is full of nudity and appreciates the human body as an artform. Skin: A History of Nudity In The Movies covers the very beginning of the silent era to present time. Nudity has changed over time as well as the hypocrisy that has come with it.

Who better to have than Jim McBride aka Mr. Skin (Being Mr.Skin: 20 Years of Nip-Slips, Cheeks Peeks, and Fast-Forwarding to the Good Parts) as an executive producer of Skin. McBride founded the website www.MrSkin.com. MrSkin.com specializes in locating feminine nudity in film and television. It all began by recording nude scenes off a VCR! Remember that gadget? In 2014 Mr.Skin created the spinoff, Mr.Man, dedicated to male nudity. Jim McBride has earned his name as being an authority in celebrity nudity.

Skin was written and directed by Danny Wolf (Time Warp:The Greatest Cult Films of All-Time). Wolf breaks down the development of Skin by decades starting from the late 1800s. Nudity originated with sculpt models before nudity in film. The documentary also educates us on how film ratings have progressed over time. The film ratings started with the National Legion of Decency, also known as Catholic Legion of Decency, in 1933. The structure was based on an A-B rating; A for fine, B for qualm, and C for going to hell. In spite of this, people prefered the film rated  ‘going to hell’ as the choice of preference.

I conducted a fully clothed Zoom interview with Mr.Skin (Jim McBride) and Danny Wolf. They discussed the era they would have enjoyed as filmmakers.  They also shared their all-time favorite nude scene. What is your all-time favorite nude scene?

Skin is available in Digital and VOD.
