Sony’s Kraven The Hunter Movie Eyes Its Director – This Is Really Happening

I must say, I’m surprised by this news, that Sony’s Kraven the Hunter movie eyes it’s director in J.C. Chandor. I know there were rumors of a Kraven movie coming from Sony. However, those seemed to grow quiet again after Spider-Man 3 with Marvel Studios was announced. In fact, many fans had theorized that Kraven could be the antagonist in the upcoming Spider-Man 3 from Marvel/Sony. I guess not?

The report comes from Deadline, who say that their sources inform them Kraven is very much a go. Not only that, but Sony are in talks with Chandor to direct the movie. It certainly seems like Sony is pushing ahead full steam with their SFMCU, oh, I made that up. It stands for Sony’s Fake MCU. Sony currently has Morbius on the go and we know already how many MCU connections Morbius seems to have. Then Venom: Maximum Carnage is next for Sony, and we also learned only this week from the same outlet that Olivia Wilde has been snapped up to direct what’s probably Spider-Woman. There are also Madame Web and Jackpot movies in the pipeline.

However, there is no central thread stringing this SFMCU together because there is currently no Spider-Man. It seems a matter of time before Sony pull Tom Holland back to their own universe. I personally think the best thing Sony could do is just make a deal with Marvel Studios to make one or two Sony movies per year set in the MCU. For that Marvel get access to all the characters, and they could easily hire a new team to develop those movies whilst retaining the overall canon. That’s simply not going to happen though is it?

I have as little interest in a solo Kraven film, as I did in a solo Venom film, or Morbius. Though, I admit all of those interest me far more than a Madame Web, or Jackpot movie. I’m not buying into the SFMCU, it just doesn’t tick the fandom boxes for me. As for Chandor, this would certainly be his biggest movie to date if he lands the gig, so genuinely fingers crossed for him.
