A Smallville animated sequel is happening and it will feature the voice talents or original stars Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum. Smallville was a show that told the origins of Clark Kent before he became Superman. Welling and Rosenbaum starred as Clark and Lex Luthor respectively in the popular show.

“Michael Rosenbaum and I are actually working on an animated series to bring those characters back to life, and use as many of the original cast members as possible. Don’t tell anybody, though. It’s a secret, we’re still working on it.”

Of course one cast member in particular will not be back. That is of course Allison Mack who played Chloe Sullivan. The former actor is awaiting sentencing this month for the crimes she committed whilst involved with a sex cult. Ouch!

Smallville was a weird show for me. To begin with, I really enjoyed it, however for the last few season it all felt like it was treading water and too afraid to really get into Superman. I also hated how they could never show Welling in the suit. I think the finale, where we see a glimpse of the famous suit should have just been one shot of Welling in costume.

Smallville has continued in comic book format, and one would expect the animated show will follow on from that. What I will say is that I think Welling and Rosenbaum were up there with the best live-versions of these characters. In fact, I’d say Rosenbaum was the best live-action Luthor we have had yet.

I always said, what would be great, is a live-action Superman show that followed on from Smallville. I guess since the years have gone by fast, this animated show is the best we can hope for. Yet, at the same time, after all these years, I’m not sure I’ll be all that interested in this show. I guess I’ll at least have to give it a try. I always liked the titles at least?
