I’m sure the Sony haters will have a field day with this one. On the heels of all the drama surrounding Spider-Man and his departure from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it looks like Sony Pictures is moving full steam ahead with their own little pocket universe, which I am still calling the VenomVerse because I can.
We know there’s another Venom movie on the way, along with Morbius and plenty of others in development. Now, it sounds like they’re developing a Madame Web movie, because apparently, that’s what all the kids are clamoring for. Writing the film are Morbius scribes Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, so clearly, Sony is happy with the work done on that film.
Madame Web first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #210 and was created by Denny O’Neil and John Romita Jr. I’ll admit that I didn’t even recognize the character until I looked her up and recognized her from the ‘90s cartoon. So this is the character Sony is betting on?
Suffering from blindness and some muscular disease, she pretty much just sits in a life support system that looks like a web. She gives Peter Parker advice and is essentially an oracle-type lady.
This movie will exist in the VenomVerse, but there’s no word on how Spider-Man will play into it — because I honestly don’t see this working without him.
