Looks like Rocky Balboa is getting buddy-buddy with Ivan Drago these days. First, the two reunited in The Expendables and then in Creed II, and now real-life stars Sylvester Stallone and Dolph Lundgren are working together to bring a sought-after hourlong action drama series to television.
According to Deadline, the duo will be executive producing a currently-untitled show, that was “sold in the room at all three broadcast networks it was pitched to this week — Fox, CBS and NBC — and also drew interest from the two streamers it was taken to, Netflix and Apple.”
Admittedly, I quoted that section directly because it’s unclear whether or not this thing was sold or not…even though they use the word sold. Based on everything else in the article, it sounds as though the networks are in a bidding war for this thing, but the wording isn’t clear.
What is clear though is that writing Ken Sanzel is handling the script and showrunner duties and it “stars Lundgren as a covert operative at the Department of Safety and Security at the UN. He is described as the UN’s secret special agent, a one-man S.W.A.T. team and hostage negotiator.”
Stallone may direct the pilot. It is unclear if Stallone will be in front of the cameras at any point in the story, but it certainly seems like a promising series that could help take Lundgren’s career to the next level.
