Solo: A Star Wars Story – Ron Howard On A Potential Sequel

Even with all of its production problems, Solo: A Star Wars Story is likely to turn out to be a success. As most of you already know, actor Alden Ehrenreich, who plays the young Han Solo is signed under contract for three films. The film’s director, Ron Howard, who came in and saved the film from its troubled production, recently spoke with at a press junket for the film and offered his ideas on what he would like to see in a sequel.

“Well, there are so many possibilities and, you know, it’s kind of one of those things where we’re sitting around, waiting for those shots. Although, with [director of photography] Bradford Young, there’s not a lot of time. He moves fast. He’s an indie guy. And, so we were able to make this movie at a pace but, once he began to see the possibilities for scenes and ideas. So, I don’t have a big vision as to where the plot would go, even though ultimately we know where he’s headed and it would be intriguing to navigate him there.”

It sounds like while Howard has an idea where a sequel might lead, he is keeping mum with the details for now. If there does end up being a second Solo anthology film (no official word yet, but that announcement may be right around the corner if Solo does well) I think it is likely that Disney would try to keep Howard around for the sequel, considering how he was able to navigate the film’s early issues and bring home a finished product.
