Sonic The Hedgehog Races To A Summer Production, Junkie XL Could Score

Big, gritty, realistic video games aren’t the only ones that are getting big budget films. Over the next few years, we’ll be seeing Detective Pikachu, Super Mario Bros., and Sonic the Hedgehog all come to the big screen in one form or another. While Mario is set to be fully animated (at least by our understanding), the other two are set to be a live-action/animation hybrid (not unlike Alvin and the Chipmunks).

According to a new report from Omega Underground, production on the Blue Blur’s theatrical debut is set to begin this coming July in Atlanta, Georgia. As we already knew, Jeff Fowler is set to direct, and Deadpool‘s own Tim Miller is set to have a hand in producing, with his own Blur Studio will be handling animation on the flick.

That wasn’t all the report had to say. It also touts a rumor that Junkie XL, who is known for composing such film as Deadpool and Mad Max: Fury Road, could be on board to write the music for the Sonic film as well. He was also originally on board to score Deadpool 2, but ultimately left out of solidarity to Tim Miller once that helmer stepped down. As such, it’s easy to see why he’d be interested to do the music for Sonic.

Sadly, there is no news on the story, script, or overall aesthetic of the film, but as the movie gets closer to its production, we’re certain to hear a whole lot more.
