Newly released Sonic the Hedgehog speeds its way to number one position in the latest Watched at Home Top 20 list compiled by The Digital Entertainment Group (DEG).
The list is compiled using data from U.S. digital sales, digital rentals (VOD), DVD, and Blu-ray sales for the week ended May 23, 2020. Films on streaming platforms are not considered for this calculation.
Last week’s top position with Birds of Prey: Harley Quinn only fell one spot to a second-place finish. Disney’s Onward is a pleasant surprise on the top five films since it was streaming on Disney Plus for quite some time now. Sony Pictures’ two films Bad Boys for Life and Bloodshot are still holding steady in the top five since last week.
Sonic the Hedgehog stars Jim Carrey in one of his best career roles as Dr. Robotnik with Ben Schwartz voicing Sonic. The film garnered over $146 million in the domestic box office and $300 worldwide before the pandemic shutdown of the theater industry. Currently, it is the third highest-grossing film at the domestic box office for 2020.
