You will be able to get your hands on Brandon Sanderson’s first draft of The Way of Kings.

If you’re a fantasy fan, chances are you’ve at least heard of the epic series known as The Stormlight Archive. It started nearly a decade ago with The Way of Kings. It continued with Words of Radiance and Oathbringer, and later this year will see the release of the fourth book, Rhythm of War. In celebration of the tenth anniversary, Dragonsteel Entertainment will be running a Kickstarter for a two-volume leatherbound edition of The Way of Kings. Needless to say, if you’re a collector of books, this is a must-have for you.

Today, the tier list for the July 7 Kickstarter was released, and it has all sorts of goodies. In addition to the leatherbound books, there are fake movie posters for Bridge Four, copies of a Stormlight Archive novella, and more. But most excitingly is the release The Way of Kings Prime.

What is this, you may ask? Well, it’s Brandon Sanderson’s original take on the novel more than 15 years ago. This was before he even did Mistborn and before he became a fantasy novelist giant in the industry. If you’ve been following Sanderson’s career, you’ll know that, in this draft, Kaladin ended up accepting the Shardplate upon winning it early on in the story. This led to all sorts of differences that led to a false-feeling narrative. Sanderson sat on the story for another several years before giving us the Way of Kings book we know now.

According to the official fansite, the novel will be available for free online in ebook form. But if you’re worried about it being unedited, fret not. It’ll be cleaned up to their standards. But, as you’ll expect, this isn’t canon. It’s a different story, so you can’t expect it to be canon.

But if the fact that it’ll be available in ebook form is disappointing, you’ll be happy to know you can actually get a physical copy. But it’ll cost you. More specifically, it’ll cost you $500. Luckily, this comes with a whole host of other perks — so you won’t be paying just for that.
