Spaceballs 2 has been announced at Amazon MGM alongside a cast of both new and returning stars from the Mel Brooks original. first off, check out Mel Brooks video below, with a funny and Hollywood critical ‘opening crawl’.

Not only is Brooks (soon to be 99) coming back as Yogurt, Rick Moranis will come out of retirement to reprise his role as Dark Helmet. Bill Pullman returns as Lone Starr and Daphne Zuniga as Princess Vespa. Sadly of cours, there can be no John Candy this time around. However, I have a feeling writer Josh Gad, who is also in the film acting, might be a recast for Barf, or the son of Barf.

New additions include Lewis Pullman, who most would guess is playing the son of real father Pullman’s Lone Starr and Zuniga’s Vespa. Also added are Keke Palmer in an undisclosed role.

Josh Gad (Frozen) is set to star and produce, alongside Brooks. Josh Greenbaum will direct the film from a screenplay by Benji Samit, Dan Hernandez, and Gad.

The original was decent, but nowhere near a classic, like some of Brooks earlier comedies. I definitely enjoyed it more as a kid when it released than I did as an adult and watched it again. Then again, it did have some good gags that were memorable. Ludicrous Speed being tartan, combing the desert and the Alien spoof scene is my favourite of the film.

I guess we will find out which sci-fi franchises are getting spoofed in this one come 2027. The fact Moranis is back, is also brilliant as I could not imagine a Spaceballs movie without Dark Helmet.
