Spectrum | Rick Stanton on Autism Story and Using Family Members as Actors

Steve Stanton in Spectrum

Rick Stanton found his inspiration for his short film Spectrum from his autistic brother.

In crafting the story, he based the film on a real-life incident that happened to him, making his brother the star of the film.

The film stars Wunmi Mosaku (Loki, Deadpool & Wolverine), Hasan Dixon (War Horse), and Steven Stanton in the lead role. It is also supported by a cast of untrained actors, all of whom are neurodivergent or on the autism spectrum.

Here is the official description:

Spectrum explores the life of Steve, played by Rick’s brother of the same name, a man with autism, as he navigates a world that often isolates him. Along the way, Steve redefines what it means to be a superhero, facing challenges with courage, resilience, and deep humanity. Though his journey, we witness the transformative power of acceptance and the untapped potential for greatness within every individual, no matter where they fall on the spectrum.
