Spider-Man: Far From Home – New Trailer In Depth Discussion [Endgame SPOILERS]

So by now I am sure most of you have seen the latest trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home, if not, feel free to check it out above, but be aware of Tom Holland’s SPOILER warning for Avengers: Endgame before you do huh?

Yes, there are some huge spoiler here for Endgame, and I think we all know which one specifically, and that’s the death of Tony Stark. I really like how the death of Peter’s mentor could act like the catalyst that teaches Peter the whole ‘with great power comes great responsibility’ mantra he lives by. We didn’t get to see the death of Uncle Ben in this version of Spider-Man, but for me the death of Tony Stark, which is partly about saving Peter in the first place is even more of a powerful motivator for the web-slinger going forward.

What is great, is that we are still going to be seeing Happy Hogan around as well and experience how he deals with the loss of his friend and employer. Clearly Peter just wants to be a kid and go and have fun with his friends in Europe, who luckily all seem to have been dusted like Peter, but hey, we’ll forgive them that one shall we? Although I feel it’s the perfect opportunity to introduce a new classmate to Peter, one Harry Osbourne. There’s no hints yet that this will happen, but I personally would love to see it, even if it’s simply a tease for later on.

We know that Nick Fury is trying to get a hold of Peter, who is trying to ignore the superspy in order to just have some fun. Of course, as we knew from the first trailer also, Nick Fury does indeed track down Spider-Man and enlist his help. We are introduced properly here to Quentin Beck, aka Mysterio, who claims to be from another version of Earth. Seemingly the snap and subsequent time meddling has opened up a portal to other versions of Earth. We even hear Peter refer to it as the Multi-Verse which of course ties in nicely to the comic book sources. Mysterio is seen telling Peter that death’s may happen in order to save lives, I can see that being a bone of contention between the pair, as Spider-Man is not the kind of character to sacrifice anyone for the ‘greater good’.

Also, does anyone really believe a word that Mysterio tells us at this point, surely, Mysterio of full of S***? Is he even from another Earth, does he have real powers and is he the one controlling these Elemental threats? I guess that’s something we are going to have to see play out on the movie screen. They also seem to playing the whole Spider-Man becoming the next Iron Man thing, and from a thematic perspective I can get that. The MCU needs a new face up front now that Iron Man and Steve are no longer around. I could see that being Spider-Man and Captain Marvel, though we also have Black Panther and Doctor Strange who can take on leadership roles. I just see the development of Peter into a proper inspirational hero as a great arc for him to go through next.

IF the Multi-Verse idea is true, then this could be the seeds which bear the fruit of X-Men and Fantastic Four coming in to the MCU, though for me the FF can just be brought in without the need for any Multi-Verse shenanigans. A Multi-Verse idea just sets up sooo many opportunities for cool storytelling in the MCU going forward, so I kinda hope it is true.

Oh, and finally, we still have no idea where Numan Acar, (rumoured to be playing Chameleon) fits into all this. I think as per usual Marvel is keeping a lot back from this trailer and I love that approach they are taking lately. Finally it seems like MJ who is portrayed as very smart and sarcastic has worked out Peter is Spider-Man, is there anyone left to discover his secret identity at this point?

Is there anything else going on in the new Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer that we failed to spot, any clues we may have missed, and what about that Multi-Verse idea? Shoot your webs of intrigue into the usual crime den below.
