Marvel fans, rejoice! As we reported earlier today, Spider-Man is headed back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After several weeks of fans’ worst fears essentially being realized, Disney and Sony came to an agreement that would keep both parties happy. But what was the deal?

Here’s what Variety had to say about the next film that will feature Spider-Man in the MCU. Kevin Feige will continue acting as producer, Disney will be putting forth roughly 25% of the budget and will be garnering roughly 25% of the profits, and Disney will retain the merchandising rights for the character.

And you know what? This is a solid deal. I think I can speak for many of us when I said this is what we mostly expected. The only downside here is that I thought this was the deal that would extend past more than one standalone film and one MCU appearance. With this in mind, I worry about how much room is left for Sony to give should they want to continue this relationship with Disney.

So, pretty much, things mostly stay the same, and Disney gets a larger piece of the pie. I only wish this included other appearances in the MCU, but as history has proven, there’s always room to negotiate that sort of thing as Phase 4 continues to evolve and mature.
