Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse Wins Best Animated Feature At Golden Globes

Since it’s debut on December 14th, Sony Animation’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse has been praised for it’s fresh storytelling and visual style that was created by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. The film follows Miles Morales, not Peter Parker, an African-American/Puerto Rican Brooklyn teen, who like Parker is bitten by a radioactive spider. The film has been so well received in that it had got a nomination for “Best Animated Feature.”

Today we are happy to report that the film has won the category of Best Animated Feature. Spider-Man had to fight of some heavy competition to win. Also nominated were Pixar’s Incredibles 2, Disney’s Ralph Breaks the Internet, Wes Anderson’s Isle of Dogs and GKIDS’ Mirai.

It’s a very tough category to win if your not Disney or Pixar as since it’s introduction in 2007 only two other films not associated with those two studios have won. Back in 2014 the award went to How to Train Your Dragon 2 and in 2011 it went to The Adventures of TinTin.

“Anyone can wear the mask, everyone is powerful and everyone is necessary and that is the spirit of the movie,” said Peter Ramsey, who directed with Bob Persichetti and Rodney Rothman, backstage at the Golden Globes via Hollywood Reporter. “We all felt deeply that anyone can have this kind of experience and be this kind of hero. The story of Miles Morales was a way to crystalize all of those feelings into one character.”

Another reason why this is an important win for the film is because it gives it a bigger chance to possibly have some success at the Academy Awards in a couple of months. Marvel Studio’s Black Panther had also been nominated for Best Motion Picture-Drama at the Golden Globes.
