As the title says, it has been revealed that Spider-Man PS5 will not work with PS4 saves. Spider-Man: Mile Morales is going to be a game you need to repurchase for the PS5, even though this extra content is more like an expansion pack. You’ll get the base Spider-Man game and it will be much better looking than what you had on your PS4. However, you would be starting that base game again.
A fan asked developer Insomniac what would happen if they placed their PS4 Spider-Man disk into a PS5. They were told it would play the backwards compatible game. We picked the story up through Eurogamer who contacted Sony for comment, but as yet have not had a response. This flies in the face of what most games are doing and offering a free upgrade to the new generation if you bought on this gen.

So if you want to play Spider-Man: Miles Morales and a PS5 version of the base Spider-Man game, it will be a full-price purchase for gamers. Not only that, but as you can see from the post by Insomniac below, you’ll also have to buy digitally. There are currently no plans to release Spider-Man: Miles Morales physically. Check it out.

Honestly, I know I’m not a Sony gamer, but I find it hard to defend this one. If I was buying a PS5 I would absolutely expect to have to buy the base Spider-Man game and this Miles Morales deal is probably perfect for me. However, if I was a PS4 gamer that had spent a ton of time on the base game, I’d be annoyed. Not only do I have to buy the game again, but I have to start them again also. If that was a game I had spent a lot of time on, I’d be raging, to be honest. I really don’t get it? Why not just offer an upgrade to the PS5 version of the game and then sell the Miles Morales expansion, you know, as an expansion?
