Spider-Verse Helmer To Take On Puss In Boots 2

“Yeah, Spider-Man!” That was a snapshot of me rewatching Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse yesterday. Seriously, from its style to writing and direction, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse totally earned its Best Animated Film Oscar, and the three helmers who took it on have the whole world in front of them in terms of projects they can take on. Now, it looks like one of them has their first project in the works.

Deadline is reporting that Bob Persichetti is hot off his Oscar win and is set to direct Puss in Boots for DreamWorks Animation. The first film hit theaters way back in 2011, and while it made $550 million, its sequel prospects seemed to die with the fourth Shrek movie. However, with even the mainline franchise looking to get revitalized in the near future, it makes sense that Puss in Boots would be getting the same treatment. It’s also fitting that he take it on, as he was Head of Story on the first movie.

There is currently no information or release date for the movie. I’m personally more interested to see what this means for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Will the sequels and spin-offs feature any of the directors from the first movie, or will they be bringing on all-new talent to keep things going in a creatively dynamic direction?
