The Walking Dead fans have certainly been to hell and back over the years, and things have arguably gotten rougher and rough as the main cast dwindled in numbers. Slowly, but surely, it seemed as though fans have been getting fed up with the series, and with the surprising midseason finale, we saw yet another lead kick the bucket. Sort of.

At the end of that finale, the longtime character Carl was sentenced to a shambling death when he was infected. In this new extended teaser for Season 8B, we see Carl’s final moments as he gives parting words of encouragement to his father, Rick. In this trailer, we also see the escalation in the conflict between the main gang and Negan.
It’s been just over a month since fans were left hanging at the end of the first half of Season 8, and while we did get this trailer, we still have nearly a month left to wait.
With audiences seemingly getting fed up with the doom and gloom of the series, one has to wonder if Season 8 can help to pick things back up, and give the story more meaning. As it stands now, audiences finally seem to be realizing that in The Walking Dead, characters only survive until they don’t. At the end of the day, is that even fun to watch?
The Walking Dead returns to AMC on Sunday, February 25.
