Star David Harbour Would Welcome Black Widow Release On Disney+

Winter Guard In the MCU

Black Widow release on Disney+

Should Black Widow release on Disney+? Yes, as far as I’m concerned. Black Widow was due to be released in cinemas on May 1st of this year. That was until the Coronavirus outbreak and the shutting down of theaters worldwide. Right now we have no idea when the movie will actually release in theaters.

With Disney’s new Disney+ service still fairly new, having Black Widow show on there would definitely boost subscriber numbers. Right now, surely that’s a better way for Disney to make profits than waiting for a box office release? Even after the restrictions are lifted in theaters, will the population be rushing out to the cinema? I assume Disney has forecast and worked out that delaying the movie for theatre release is better for profits.

I personally feel it would be a good-will gesture for Disney to just bite the bullet and get Black Widow out there. There is already likely to be further delays to future productions, so why not get the completed movie out there? Star David Harbour who plays Red Guardian in the Black Widow movie, would be happy to see the film hit Disney+. The actor recently did a live Instagram Q&A and here is what he said about Black Widow (transcript from CBM).

“I’m very much looking forward to being in Black Widow if we ever are able to release that movie. I would love to be able to watch that movie too – y’know I have not seen that movie. I have seen some stuff in ADR and it looks really good. And also I was there when we were shooting it and I’m really excited about it. But I would like to see it myself. Hell, I would watch it on Disney+.”

Is this going to happen? Probably not, unless the restrictions stay in place for far longer than is currently predicted. However, I still think it would have been a good move for Disney to make to simply drive subscriptions. Other studios are now releasing content onto demand more quickly than normal. Most movies going straight to video on demand have already had a few weeks in theaters however, unlike Black Widow.

Black Widow‘s delay will likely push out the entire MCU schedule. Never mind the halting of production on many other shows and movies. What do you think of all this, should  Black Widow release on Disney+ or not? Let us know in the usual spot below.
