Star Trek truly is going where no man (or woman) has gone before. According to Variety, Paramount has tapped S.J. Clarkson to handle directing duties for Star Trek 4. This marks a historic first for the franchise, which has only had male directors up until this point. She is likely best known for helming episodes of the Marvel shows Jessica Jones and The Defenders.
Now, if you’ve been following the Star Trek news over the past several months, you’ll know that we really don’t know which movie is getting made over there. There are reportedly a few different Trek tales getting made — one of which is the time-traveling tale where Jim meets his father (played by Chris Hemsworth) and another based on an idea from Quentin Tarantino.
The report indicates that Paramount announced at CinemaCon that they were planning on going forward with the Chris Hemsworth movie, which Zachary Quinto is set to return to. According to their sources, the Tarantino film is still being written, but would come after this fourth film.
This script is from J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay.
This is welcome news after all the stuff Star Trek has been through. While Star Trek Beyond was generally well received by critics and fans, it underwhelmed at the box office, only taking in $343 million worldwide — over $40 million less than the 2009 reboot.
