Star Trek: Lower Decks is also being celebrated this First Contact Day. Even though the show is usually about second contact.
In honor of second contact, Paramount+ released a trailer for the second season of Star Trek: Lower Decks. Series creator Mike McHahan shared the trailer on Twitter, including the US release date of 8/12/21 on Paramount+.

Lower Decks is a series that truly goes where no Star Trek series has gone before. It’s basically an adult cartoon that meshes Star Trek mythology with Rick and Morty style animation and adult humor. Mike McMahan not only wrote Rick & Morty and co-created Solar Opposites with Justin Roiland, he also wrote episodes for Season 8 of Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Before you ask, yes, the show is canon, taking place not too long after The Next Generation. In fact, Season 1 ended with one of the leads, Ensign Brad Boimler, joining Captain Riker on his ship, complete with Jonathan Frakes’ voice acting.
I’m excited for everything announced today so far, but at the time of this writing, no sign of a teaser trailer for Strange New Worlds…
