J.J. Abrams is back in the Star Wars saddle with Star Wars: Episode 9, and while this may be disappointing for some fans who were hoping for a bolder director choice from Lucasfilm, it sounds like at least one actor is happy to see Abrams return to helm yet again.

Speaking with Planéte Star Wars, Boyega expressed his excitement, saying:

“Yeah, I’m really happy, really excited. I actually sent him an email and asked him if the real reason is because he misses me. And I think that’s what it is – that’s the only reason why he came back, and I appreciate that.”

Originally set to write and director Star Wars: Episode 9 was Jurassic World and Book of Henry filmmaker Colin Trevorrow. However, it was recently revealed by Lucasfilm that the director would be parting ways from the production due to creative differences (It was rumored that the real problem revolved around how difficult Trevorrow was to work with, and had rubbed Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy the wrong way). Some time later, it was revealed that J.J. Abrams would be returning to the franchise after his work on Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which brought back the series with a bang.

Star Wars: Episode 9 has since been pushed back from a May 2019 release date to December 20, 2019, which is more in line with its holiday release schedule that we’ve grown familiar with.

Finn is my favorite character in Star Wars…said no one ever.

Poe is awesome though. Far and away my favorite new character. Love how he was modeled after a “crackerjack” WW2 pilot.

Poe is a flatter version of the already flat character Tom Cruise played in Top Gun. Poe Dameron is not even a character, he is just a cliché: the handsome heroic pilot.
Finn, on the other side, was a pretty round character with a nice little arc in TFA. And Boyega really delivered a good performance.

“I feel the need, for light speed.” – Poe (probably)

Poe is my favorite as well, other than BB-8. I hope we see more of him in the next one.

Go into any toy store and you’ll see a plethora of unsold Finn toys collecting dust. I guess people don’t want to collect the toy of the dude in a coma.

Nothing against Boyega’s acting, I just think his character wasn’t that interesting. It had potential but it seemed his whole turning from the First Order was a little rushed. He turns against everything he’s been taught on his first mission. I think it would have made more sense that he had seen many more atrocities and it finally took a toll on him. And that fact that he acted cowardly towards the First Order for most of the movie doesn’t help his case.
