Star Wars: The Force Awakens was a fun film that saw heroes Rey and Finn mostly running around together for the majority of the flick. In true second-film-style, however, Star Wars: The Last Jedi saw them separated for pretty much their entire movie. Whenever on a hero’s journey, it’s usually important for characters to learn to grow separately from one another…but will that continue in Star Wars: Episode IX?
During Washington DC’s Awesome Con (via /Film), John Boyega pretty much confirmed that the duo will be spending at least a solid chunk of the film together again.
“I haven’t read the script for Episode 9. But Daisy did shoot me a text saying, ‘Oh my gosh, I just heard from J.J. [Abrams], and we’re back together. That’s what I’m really excited about, is Finn and Rey back together again.'”
Given that the two went through a lot on their respective journeys in The Last Jedi, I can’t help but wonder if they won’t start to clash with each other in some way. That being said, it’s not as though they grew completely away from one another. As it stands, they are now both more into the Resistance than they were at the beginning of the film, so it’d be hard to believe there being a clash of ideals in the next one — plus, audiences don’t want to see that with our heroes so late in the trilogy.
