Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser Hotel Probably Won’t Launch Until 2022

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser

The Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser will be a one of a kind experience for Star Wars fans.  It was announced at the opening of Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge in Hollywood Studios. Staying at this hotel will transport guest into a Starcruiser and shuttle them into space. Guest will enjoy a two-day, two-night stay aboard the Halcyon ship, creating an immersive experience.

While construction was temporarily halted during the early parts of the Covid-19 Pandemic, work has resumed with an expected finish in early to mid 2021.  Since the pandemic started there hasn’t been much news regarding the state of the art hotel.  It wasn’t until this week we finally got some news during an IAAPA presentation, Disney Parks Chairman Josh D’Amaro shared new image of what the inside of the cabins will look like for guest.

The images presented by D’Amaro on Monday show a compact, modular room with a queen-sized bed and two bunk beds in one of the walls. What makes the entire experience unique is the lack of windows to see the outside world. The rooms and hotel will feature  virtual windows that change views of space during their stay.

Outside of the rooms, Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser will feature interactive activities such as lightsaber training, character interactions, and learning about the ship’s bridge. Guests will be able to enjoy an excursion to nearby Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. It has not been explained yet how guest will travel to the park and stay immersed in the experience

Last year, Disney announced that Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser would open in 2021. With the current status of the parks due to Covid-19 restrictions it doesn’t look like the hotel will open next year. Reservations were supposed to open up this year, but there’s been no recent word. Disney just laid off 28,000 employees company wide which included a lot of the entertainment staff from the parks.  Before Disney thinks about opening the Starcruiser they will need to open the other hotels on the resort and recover the staff that was lost.

Even with the promise of a vaccine coming in the near future, with cases spiking right now there is no way that Disney Parks will be able to organize and get the type of enjoyment guest are supposed to experience during their stay.  This is why I believe it reservations are more likely to start at the end of 2021 with stays starting in 2022.
