Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge – More Details And Photos

What Star Wars fan never imagined traveling to a galaxy far, far away? If I were given three wishes you can bet my first would be to bring the Star Wars universe into reality and plop earth in that galaxy, but genies don’t exist and the closest we’ll ever get is the new land opening up at Disneyland in California. Ryan Parker, from The Hollywood Reporter, recently spent a day at the new attraction and has provided us with some new details and some photos, which you can see HERE.

The land itself is huge, 14 acres, and has a lived in and ancient look and feel. There are full size replicas of an X-Wing, TIE Fighter, and the Millennium Falcon. Apparently scents will be circulated around the area and there will be music, both original and classic, from John Williams. The idea of smells being used is interesting to me. I wonder what scents they’ll be using for this alien world. There will be plenty of actors and even immobile landspeeders. It seems as if it will be one of the most immersive experiences any theme park has ever created.

What is a theme park without rides? Boring! Have no fear though, Galaxy’s Edge will have two state of the art rides. Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run was covered by our very own Seth McDonald a few months ago. Parker reports it being the most complete attraction in the land and was stunned at the detail of the Falcon’s main cabin and the cockpit for the ride itself. It’s this attraction that has the space pirate Hondo, which look to be the most advanced animatronic character ever. Disney labeled the thing as an A-1000… why would they do that? They’re only 19 letters from T… and we all know what happens when they get to T-1000!

Next up is the Rise of the Resistance attraction, which may or may not fill in some gaps between The Last Jedi and Episode IX. This attraction has the longest run time of all attractions at Disneyland and will be HUGE! It features life sized AT-ATs and at least one TIE Fighter. Part of the ride is actually spent on foot and the story involves riders being captured and taken aboard a Star Destroyer. Kylo, Rey, Finn, and Poe all play a part in this attraction.

What is there to eat and drink? Glad you asked! Parker toured three places where you can get sustenance: Oga’s Cantina, Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo, and Ronto Roasters. The food and drinks will have Star Wars themes and be named after animals, planets, and objects that are familiar. There will be adult beverages sold in Oga’s Cantina, but they must be consumed there. I am looking forward to Bantha Burgers, Nerf Steak, and Blue Milk… no idea if those will be there, but they should be!

There will be stores galore, of course. What would a trip to the amusement park be without overpriced goodies? The one that is likely to be the most popular will be Savi’s Workshop where guests will be able to build their own lightsaber. This is an attraction in and of itself, much like Ollivander’s Wand Shop at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. It’s reported that these are not cheap plastic lightsabers, so expect them to be costly.

I am excited to see this place. I probably won’t go any time soon after opening, due to my extreme hatred of long lines, but I’ll get there during off season in a couple of years.
