The end of the Skywalker Saga will come to fans at the end of this year, so what is next for Star Wars on the big screen? We know of at least two television series in Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian and the Diego Luna series, but what of the films? Long ago we heard that director of The Last Jedi, Rian Johnson, would be heading up an all-new Star Wars trilogy, though we haven’t heard much about that in quite a while.
We’ve also known that Game of Thrones showrunners, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss were going to bring us a “series of movies” set in a galaxy far, far away. A new report from TVLine quotes HBO boss Casey Bloys. The context had to do with the delay of their eventual series Confederate, which they were rumored to leave since they were facing criticism for being two white guys leading a racially-charged project.
Bloys gave an alternative reason, saying “The delay has to do with [the fact] that they were offered three movies.”

So, as far as we can tell, both they and Rian Johnson are officially on board for trilogies in this universe.
While I have nothing to base it on besides a gut feeling, I don’t think both Rian Johnson and Benioff and Weiss will be able to make a trilogy, I think only one of them will be allowed to make new Star Wars films. OT’s likely we won’t know much about the future of Star Wars on the big screen until this year’s Celebration, in April.
