Some more Star Wars: Episode 9 news today and though it’s not much, it does confirm that Naomi Ackie has a considerable role in the upcoming Sequel Trilogy finale.

Ackie’s role is unknown at this point, though we have had some rumors passed around that she is playing Vera Calrissian, the daughter of Star Wars icon Lando Calrissian. Those rumors are pretty wild and unfounded at this point and I am not convinced about the validity of the leakers that started the rumor. So no one is saying she will or won’t be playing a Calrissian in this picture, we really don’t know?

ODE caught up with Ackie at a recent red carpet event and asked her about how things were with her family now that she was in Star Wars and had to be very secretive about her role. They also asked her what would happen if she did let slip any information and she gave a fun answer.

“It’s just like the constant, “Are you a Jedi, Naomi? Are you a Jedi, Naomi?” I’m like, I love you but I can’t tell you that. I’m keeping some big secrets from my family and they are hounding me for it but it’s not happening.”

On what would happen if she did let slip

“I would immediately—Yoda would emit from the air as a Jedi ghost and strangle me to death. That’s what J.J. told me.”

When asked who Ackie loved being on set with she said

“I think my absolute faves were the like Star Wars new originals. I loved being with John and Daisy and Oscar and it was brilliant to share the screen with them. Such brilliant energy. It was brilliant.”

The last line obviously tells us that Ackie has a sizeable role in Episode 9 as we now know she shares scenes with all three of the major leads in this sequel trilogy. Does this add any weight to the Calrissian rumors? No, I don’t think so, at this point Ackie could be playing anyone and we wouldn’t be able to discern anything from what she said. The only thing we can say for certain is that Ackie will not be playing an alien in makeup as we have already seen some leaked set photo’s showing her with Boyega and Isaac in a field.

We had zero context for those set photos though and up until this point, we had no idea she shared any scenes with Daisy Ridley. What is interesting is that as far as we know from some of the more solids leaks and rumors, Daisy Ridley was not part of this section of the movie, meaning Ackie’s character isn’t only in one part of the movie.

Let’s just hope Star Wars: Episode 9 doesn’t feature a Yoda ghost running about strangling people!
