Star Wars: Rey Had An Unusual Name In George Lucas’ Original Outline

In  a recent interview Daisy Ridley says her new Star Wars movie is "not what she expected!"

After the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker there were many conversations between fans concerning Daisy Ridley’s Rey character adapting the name of Skywalker. As it turns out issues surrounding the name of the character began long before.

Dave Filoni’s new book Star Wars: Fascinating Facts has revealed that in his original outline draft ol’ Georgie boy, Star Wars creator George Lucas ha a teenage girl named Taryn. However, the next name he gave the character is, well, unusual . For anyone who isn’t a Teletubbie anyway. I won’t spoil the surprise, you folks can read on and discover it on your own. Check it out below.

“The Force Awakens long journey from idea to finished film was filled with evolution, but one idea that remained constant from the start was that of a young woman’s quest to become a Jedi Knight. In George Lucas‘ original outline, she was a 14-year-old girl named Taryn. In his subsequent iterations, she would briefly be named Thea and-believe it or not-Winkie. When writer/director J.J. Abrams came aboard, he simplified the names to placeholders… Thea became Sally… as the film neared production, Sally became Kira (which stuck as the production code name), then Echo, and finally Rey.”

Winkie huh? I wonder if he ever seriously intended to use it as her name or it was as said above, a placeholder. It sounds better suited as a nickname than her actual name. Leaks around the time said the new Star Wars lead was named Kira. I would have been good with Kira, but Echo, now that’s a great name or a character. If you ask me they’re all better than Rey. Ok maybe not  but if you ask me  Rey only slightly beats thank Winkie.

Daisy, Rey, I’m sorry, but the character will henceforth be referred to as Winkie.
