It’s been a good while since we’ve heard anything credible regarding anything Star Wars past the upcoming Episode IX. For a good while, it seemed like we’d be getting a Star Wars movie every year, but on the heels of the divisive Star Wars: The Last Jedi and the box office flop that was Solo: A Star Wars Story, it looks like Lucasfilm is wisely pumping the brakes a bit, leaving us with gaps of information for anything for the foreseeable future.
All we really know for sure at this point is that Rian Johnson will be getting his own trilogy, and that Game of Thrones creators Dan Weiss and David Benioff will be getting a series of movies themselves (which is rumored to be a trilogy). But now, we have a brand spanking new rumor courtesy of the lovely folks over at Star Wars News Net.

The first piece of news states that D&D’s new Star Wars film will begin filming this fall. That’s right. If true, this would give them just a few months’ break following Game of Thrones‘ epic conclusion before jumping back into the fray with their big-budget science fantasy flick. Here’s what the outlet’s source said. That they were:
“…approached about working on the next movie this Autumn. It is not the Rian Johnson trilogy, it is the Game of Thrones guys’ first movie, and it is set during the Old Republic, as Disney wants to open up the Star Wars timeline and appeal to a more ‘Game of Thrones‘ style audience.”
Wow. So that’s not very subtle. It looks like, if true, they really are working to milk that high fantasy aspect from it. That idea is compounded by what the source says next.
“So the timeline is hundreds of years prior to the Skywalkers, so think almost Star Wars meets Lord of the Rings.”
Finally, the source touched on where the script is and the filming dates, which I mentioned previously were set for fall.
“Filming starts in the Fall and art departments are in design phases now as the script is being finalized. That is all I know but I am 95% confident that this is accurate.”
So, as with all things, take this all with a grain of salt. This is one source — an unvetted source, at that, but Star Wars News Net does have a pretty solid track record, so perhaps there’s hope?
