Star Wars Rumor: Mos Eisley Anthology Movie Was Scrapped

The last few days have been hectic with regards to Star Wars news. After the poor financial performance of Solo: A Star Wars Story, we have had rumors of Kathleen Kennedy quitting and then finally rumors of all Star Wars anthology films being scrapped or put on hold. This was followed up by Lucasfilm publicly stating that all anthology films have not been scrapped at all. You can follow this story through the link in the related section below.

Now we have another rumor, which looks to explain why there was a possible confusion about all those movies being canceled. The rumor comes from Making Star Wars, and the outlet says that a booking for set space at Pinewood studios for an anthology movie was indeed scrapped. However, the outlet also says they think they know exactly which movie this was going to be.

Apparently one of the unannounced Star Wars anthology movies Lucasfilm was working on was about life in the Mos Eisley spaceport. We don’t have many details as to what this would actually have entailed, but it seems Lucasfilm decided not to pursue the idea any further at this stage. As such, the set booking was canceled and the outlet theorizes that this cancellation may have been what prompted the initial stories about Lucasfilm canceling all anthology movies.

Different outlets have different sources and I am not sure exactly how much faith we can put in this rumor. It kind of makes sense, but a rumor making sense, does absolutely nothing to validate it in any way. I have to say I actually like the idea of a movie with an ensemble cast set in Mos Eisley, I think the possibilities could be limitless. I remember reading one of the old EU legends books and it was called Tales of the Bounty Hunters. It was separate stories following different characters that all had connections to one another, (one of the stories was how Boba Fett got himself out of the Sarlacc pit and survived post Return of the Jedi). However, I can also see why this might not have been the best option given the proposed Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi movies may cover some similar ground.

Would you be interested in seeing a movie based on a story set in the Mos Eisley spaceport, or are you glad it was canceled if true? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
