The Mandalorian is, of course, the upcoming first live-action TV show set in the Star Wars universe and is set to debut on Disney+ when the new streaming service launches. With the many Disney+ shows rumored and announced, most we thought would be one season and done shows, but, perhaps that is not the case after all?
According to HN Entertainment sources have told them that The Mandalorian has already been renewed for a Season 2 before the first season even debuts. Whilst some fans are excited by this news and claiming this must mean the execs at Disney are very happy with the show so far I think it may be slightly more practical than that. I’d guess that if the show has already been renewed as the rumor states, then it is likely that the show was always intended to go across multiple seasons from its inception.

Disney+ need to make sure they have a steady stream of new content coming to the service. It, therefore, makes sense form a business standpoint to greenlight Season 2 so early because there was never any doubt a season 2 was happening. Now I’m not saying the show won’t be good and that Disney isn’t happy with it, I just don’t think it’s a guarantee based on this rumor alone.
We still have no launch date for Disney+ and as such we have no release date for The Mandalorian. I guess we will have to judge the show on its own merits when we do get to see it. However Season 1 turns out, it seems likely that The Mandalorian will be getting a Season 2 sometime in the future.
