Star Wars The Rise Of Skywalker: Abrams Destroys Fake Claims That Test Screenings For The Movie Were A Disaster

According to the latest Barside Buzz from a good source, the title of the Rey Sequel movie is Star Wars Episode X: A New Beginning.

The toxic fandom of Star Wars. In some ways, I really dislike this term. As a fan, I don’t see myself as toxic (go figure) and yet I have been disappointed with the sequel trilogy for a variety of different reasons. Equally though, I know there are fans out there who have gone over to the Dark Side and have gone completely toxic, though I maintain they remain in the minority.

Last week I shared a hilarious YouTube video with my colleagues, from a masked goon, pretending that he had inside information on Star Wars. The claims he made were that test screenings for The Rise of Skywalker have been going on for some time and that they were a disaster, audiences hated it and extensive reshoots were ordered, with Bob Iger going postal and bringing in George Lucas to “save the movie.” This even sounds ridiculous to be fair, you can’t just reshoot a movie within that kind of timescale when it is as visual effects-heavy as this movie will be. However, the story got a lot of traction online.

Now, I am not going to share the link for this video, because I refuse to promote something as obviously fake as this. That’s my call, but if you feel you need to go see this video, your search engine shouldn’t have too much trouble. I will post a link to an outlet (WGTC) below who covered the story, though they do simply report it as rumor and they also question the track record of the YouTuber who made these claims.

So, what’s all this got to do with today’s story? Well, recently director of The Rise of Skywalker J.J. Abrams spoke with Esquire and was asked about who all had seen this movie so far, here is Abrams’ response.

“Oh yeah, yeah. Sure, I mean the final final? No. I mean the truth is, I have not even gotten to see the final product. The way it works is you do the mix, you go back and forth between two different places like you’re doing the picture at the color correction place, you’re doing the sound at the mix stage, so it’s like you’re getting it in pieces, where you say “Oh that looks amazing!” but there’s no sound to it. And then you go and you say “Oh that sounds incredible!” Then you’re still putting pieces together in your head, but of course I’ve shown it at a friends and family screening, but we’ve never done like a test screening.”

Now, this makes sense, because we know that test screenings happen for movies, in fact, some of my colleagues on LRM have attended many of these in their past lives (outlets like ours DO NOT get invited to these as you’d imagine). But we also know that test screenings never happened for either The Force Awakens, or The Last Jedi. So the idea that Disney would have been running test screenings for this movie, without completed visual effects (if it was prior to reshoots) is simply ludicrous.

As you can see from Abrams’ comments, the only people that have really seen this film are a few of his friends and family. This isn’t particularly important information, but I want to stress here how it disproves a lot of rumor that has sprung up recently over these supposedly awful test screenings. Just bear in mind that someone is being toxic enough to pretend the movie is a disaster before they have ever seen it, are they doing this for YouTube money, or because they want fans to hate this last episode? That’s about the only question we have to find an answer to here. Unless you are a conspiracy theorist and would rather believe the outlandish claims, even though we know Star Wars doesn’t do test screenings, or never has before? If you are, good luck to you, but you are not using logic here, and this comes from someone who has been extremely critical of Star Wars since Disney purchased Lucasfilm.

Share your thoughts on all this below if you have them, just don’t try to sell me on the conspiracy angle, because I’m not biting.
