The ‘Dark Rey’ trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker ignited much debate within the fan community. Most of us were pretty confident that it was simply a vision, much like the one Luke Skywalker experienced while training with Yoda on Degobah. However, some Star Wars fans held hopes in the back of our minds that Disney would dare to be so bold.
As we know, the sith version of Rey wasn’t real.
While Dark Rey was a frightening sight, An Instagram post from artist Adam Brockbank shows some concept art that tells us Rey’s brief appearance as a Dark Side practitioner could have even been darker, more intimidating, and overall more Sithy. You can check it out below.

Having Rey actually turn to the Dark Side in would have been a better way to subvert expectations. Especially considering the return of her grandfather Emperor Palpatine. We would have seen a young Force user actually turn to the Dark side at the request of their older relative. If Disney had gone this way, then Kylo Ren would have had to turn back to the light, join his Uncle Luke, and face off against Rey and Palpatine in an epic showdown to end the trilogy and the saga.
