Welcome back to The Cantina where we definitely serve your kind. I’m your bartender Kyle Malone and I’m serving up tall glasses of nothing but Star Wars.  By now you know I am the dedicated, well versed in the EU, experienced gamer, and open-minded fan this world needs. I see the flaws in The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, but also the great moments too. I know the importance of The Empire Strikes Back but see how strong Return of the Jedi is. I see that the prequels… well… we’ll get there… maybe. There’s nothing more satisfying than a great Star Wars story, and I want more!

It’s been a few weeks but I’m back and ready to dive deep into the world of Star WarsThe Rise of Skywalker and The Mandalorian are hitting this year and you can bet I will have a lot to say!

Recent News and Rumors

Vanity Fair released a wealth of photos and information about the upcoming finale to the Skywalker Saga. There weren’t a lot of story elements, did you really think you’d learn much with so much time before release, but there were some interesting bits and some very cool photos.

Are we going back to Jakku, or are we headed to the Skywalker homeworld of Tatooine? Maybe both? Either planet could play a pivotal role for one of the two main characters, Rey and Kylo. I would be cool with either one playing a role in this film.

We get a look at Keri Russell’s Zorri Bliss and Richard E. Grant as General Pryde seated in front of current Sequel Trilogy bad guy, General Hux. I think it’s too late in the game to add a bunch of new characters and with so much story to wrap up, I really don’t want to learn a bunch of new storylines. I wanted this move to tie up all of the loose ends and give us a satisfactory ending to the Skywalker saga… We’ll see what happens but I don’t really want these people to slow things down.

The Knights of Ren have been absent since their appearance in The Force Awakens. Everyone expected them to play a bigger role in the first two films of the ST but we’ve been given NOTHING! This element needed some investment in either The Force Awakens or The Last Jedi. This would allow us to once again, keep the focus on wrapping up the ending instead of explaining a bunch of new story elements. The Knights look cool and I really like the Buster Sword looking weapon, but do we have enough time to really understand these characters?

This is all fan service, but it is good to see Billy Dee Williams back on the falcon. He was absent from the first two ST movies, but hopefully, he gets a proper sendoff. Honestly, I don’t want him to die though. It’d be nice to see one of these OT heroes survive.

Finally, we have what appears to be Kylo and Rey trying to kill each other again. On this morning’s LRMornings podcast, Jammer said it looks like they’re fighting on a ship rising from the water, but I think they’re fighting on the Death Star II carcass seen in the trailer. Given the reveal that Papa Palpatine will play a role in this film, it makes sense that his “final resting place” would come into play.  I really hope this scene doesn’t end with Kylo’s redemption. We’ve already seen redemption. Let’s see evil just lose and die!

December is fast approaching and no matter how you felt about The Last Jedi they don’t seem to be moving forward with a bunch of retconning, which is a fear I’ve had for some time. I want to trust that we’re going to get the ending we deserve as fans, but it is Abrams… and it is Disney… We’ll just have to wait and see.
