Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker takes in $13.1M On New Year’s Eve

While Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker may not be pulling in as much as many of us were expecting, it’s still doing pretty solid business over the holiday season, and that includes New Year’s Eve, which some people decided to spend at the theaters. As it turns out, a good number of people went to see the saga-ending film, as evidenced by the box office.

According to Variety, the film took in $13.1 million on Tuesday, bringing its domestic total to $390.6 million, meaning that it could very well cross $400 million by the end of today, which is quite the milestone for any movie. But, of course, you want to know how it stacks up to The Last Jedi, right?

Well, The Last Jedi took in $13.6 million on New Year’s Eve, bringing its total to $498.2 million at that moment. However, there are two things worth noting. The first is that The Last Jedi had five more days in theaters than The Rise of Skywalker at this point, so it’s a rough comparison. The second is that while The Rise of Skywalker had a 14.3% drop from its previous day, The Last Jedi had a 31.9% drop.

Granted, The Last Jedi definitely had a stronger first 10 days than The Rise of Skywalker, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the latter film had a longer tail thanks to it being a general crowd-pleaser.
