In case you missed it, Vanity Fair dropped a huge spread on Star Wars fans yesterday. A large piece with a handful of new photos for the upcoming final installment into the Skywalker Saga, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. In the video above, Vanity Fair‘s Lev Grossman breaks down the known and unknown parts of The Rise of Skywalker.
Emperor Palpatine will be in the film, in some shape or form that is yet to be revealed. We now know that Keri Russell’s character is a “masked scoundrel” named Zori Bliss. The mysterious Knights of Ren will make an appearance and of course, Luke Skywalker will return, most likely in the form of a “blue glowy,” in other words, a Force ghost. A couple of new locations have been confirmed in the planets Kimiji, which appears to be snow covered and Pasaana, which is located on the edge of the galaxy and has inhabitants called Aki Aki.
First and foremost, what exactly does the title mean? Who is the Skywalker that will rise? Will the theory that the name Skywalker will now refer to Force users turn out to be true? After all, this is the Skywalker Saga, which would lead one to believe that there would be one living Skywalker in the final chapter. Yes, I know Ben is a Skywalker, but he doesn’t carry the name, so while he has Skywalker blood, he isn’t really a Skywalker, in my opinion anyway.
As the regular LRM readers probably know, I was not a fan of The Last Jedi, having said that I hope to be a fan of Rise of Skywalker. I hope to see what used to be/probably still is my favorite franchise return to form (at least in my eyes). I am excited to see how and why my old friend Palpy makes his return, as well as maybe seeing a Luke Skywalker that seems more familiar.
